A NATURAL LEATHER ALTERNATIVE
Vegan, Durable, Waterproof, and Eco-Friendly.
AppleSkin leather, as the name suggests comes from the leftover skin of apples which are used in the agriculture and food sectors. The skin is processed and mixed with water plant based cellulose which creates a durable and leather like feel material. It’s perfect for products that would normally be manufactured using animal skin leather.
CREATIVE & VERSATILE
Stylish, versatile and adaptable. Apple skins mixed with robust cellulose materials, can be printed or embossed/debossed. The material is soft to the touch and has a leathery feel, so is perfect for products which are normally made from genuine leather which need to be durable and long lasting. AppleSkin comes in a range of finishes and colours to suit every application.
ENVIRONMENTAL CREDENTIALS
Eco-conscious and first-rate environmental credentials. Manufactured using eco-friendly processes, When using apple skin instead of PU, the carbon footprint saved by using apple is 5.28kg CO2 per/kg which is why this is the preferred product of designers and manufacturers responsible for major brands around the world requiring a vegan and non-animal related material.
THE PROCESS
Apples cultivated in the food industry for making juices and other food products, have unused cores and skin, which would normally be destined for landfills, which includes waste management and costs. The recovered cores and skins are then processed into a powder, which is mixed with100% organic waste to form a leather like material which is both vegan and sustainable.
NEXT GENERATION MATERIALS
MOIC continually look for next-generation materials and leather alternatives to work with and collaborate with innovators, developers and manufacturers in this field for new, innovative and the latest trends in non-animal sustainable materials. Mushroom leather is the latest trend to be developed and this is currently in the testing stage and will be available soon.
FRUIT AND VEGETABLE BASED LEATHERS
The materials we currently work with include bio materials including, recycled paper derivatives, apple, bamboo & pineapple which have similar characteristics as animal leather but with a low impact on our planet, as well as non-use of animal skins.
NO ANIMAL BY-PRODUCTS
MOIC does not use any animal based products, including by-products and this includes animal leathers and glues which contain animal gelatin. We also avoid PU materials which include harmful chemicals in the production process. Instead, we use water-based materials, vegetable & fruit based leathers as well as bio materials including paper, cellulose, apple, pineapple, wheat & bamboo.
RPET FOR LINING, LABELS & TAGES
The linings we use are manufactured from RPET (Recycled Plastic Bottles) and we use bamboo for out tags and labels.
BIODEGRADABLE PACKAGING
MOIC packaging is manufactured from recycled card as well as vegetable pulp, so is biodegradable & compostable.
PRINTING WITH SOY INKS
We print our labels & tags with Soy inks, avoiding any harsh chemicals used in normal ink dyes.
